Abstract

The intent of this study is to determine idealized influence and employee commitment. Additionally, this study examines how individual factors of leadership can impact levels of employee commitment. Idealized influence is among the key components of transformational leadership. Idealized influence entails encouraging followers to raise their consciousness about and elicit their commitment to the mission and vision of the organization. Idealized influence refers to the behaviors of a transformational leader that evoke in followers a sense of trust, admiration, respect, and the desire to emulate the leader. This study looked at various attributes of idealized influence, which include ethical values, trust, role models, and taking risks. The study concluded that in order to achieve employee commitment, idealized influence should be adopted. This study revealed that there was a positive relationship between idealized influence and employee commitment, implying that enhancement of idealized influence leads to better performance. The study recommends that leaders should express more enthusiasm to staff about what needs to be accomplished and continuously provide employees with an inspiring vision and mission to increase employee efforts in meeting and achieving set organizational goals and objectives.
