Abstract

This study investigates the role of competence planning in enhancing the corporate survival of telecommunications companies in Rivers State. Specifically, the research examines the relationships between competence mapping, personal development plans (PDPs), customer satisfaction, and organizational growth. A cross-sectional research design was employed, with data collected from 124 respondents using purposive sampling. The study utilized both primary data from questionnaires and secondary data from management literature. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis revealed strong positive relationships between competence mapping and customer satisfaction, competence mapping and growth, PDPs and customer satisfaction, and PDPs and growth. These findings underscore the critical importance of competence planning in fostering employee development, enhancing customer satisfaction, and driving organizational growth. The study concludes that competence mapping and PDPs are vital for aligning employee skills with organizational objectives. Recommendations include regular competence mapping, comprehensive PDP implementation, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and prioritizing innovation and technological advancement to sustain growth.
