Abstract

This study investigates the alignment of mosques in Gumel Town, Nigeria, with the apparent movement of the sun, focusing on the accuracy of their orientation towards the Qibla. A mixed-methods approach, incorporating surveys, interviews, and astronomical observations, revealed significant deviations in mosques' orientation. These discrepancies are attributed to the reliance on traditional methods, limited astronomical knowledge, and cultural/architectural influences. The findings emphasize the need for education and awareness on precise Qibla direction and astronomical methods in mosque design and orientation.
