Abstract
As the global population continues to age, addressing the needs and well-being of aging population becomes an imperative task for nations across the world, including Nigeria. The aging population in Nigeria is increasing, presenting challenges related to housing and public spaces. This research paper aims to investigate the role of architectural design in enhancing the well-being of the aging population and creating age-friendly environments in Makurdi, Benue State. The study focuses on accessibility, inclusive design, and their impact on the well-being of elderly individuals. The study explored existing literature, case studies were conducted and communities where engaged in the findings. Architectural interventions that promote inclusivity and address the specific needs of elderly individuals within the Benue context were recommended. This paper proposes a design model and practical recommendations for policymakers, urban planners and architectural interventions that foster a more inclusive and supportive environment that will enhance the well-being of the elderly in Makurdi, Benue State.
