Résumé

The effectiveness of leadership within public organizations significantly influences employee motivation and productivity. This study explores the impact of different leadership styles—transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire—on employee motivation and productivity within the public sector of Delta State, Nigeria. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered through surveys and interviews involving 150 public sector employees across various ministries. Quantitative data were analyzed using regression analysis, while qualitative responses provided contextual insights into leadership practices. Findings suggest that transformational leadership has a strong positive effect on both motivation and productivity, whereas transactional leadership had a moderate impact, and laissez-faire leadership showed minimal or negative influence. The study recommends capacity-building initiatives for public leaders to promote effective leadership styles that enhance workforce engagement and organizational performance.
