Abstract
This study centered on brain drain and healthcare service delivery in tertiary hospitals in Akwa Ibom State. Two specific objectives as well as two research questions and hypotheses were designed for the study. Survey research design was used in the study as structured questionnaire were used for data collection. The population of the study was 1,816, while the sample size was 328, as determined using Taro Yamane sample size determination technique. Using simple linear regression analysis and at 0.05 level of significance, results from the analysis showed that pull factors has a positive and significant effect on healthcare service delivery in tertiary hospitals in Akwa Ibom State (R2 = 0.156), and push factors has a positive and significant effect on healthcare service delivery in tertiary hospitals in Akwa Ibom State (R2 = 0.156). It was concluded that brain drain has positive and significant effect on healthcare service delivery in tertiary hospitals in Akwa Ibom State. The researcher recommended that management of the studied tertiary hospitals should endeavour to improve the work conditions of the healthcare workers as this will enhance the chances of retaining them in the hospitals, and factors that constitute push factors in the tertiary hospitals should be improved on to keep healthcare workers satisfied with their jobs and place of work.
