Abstract

The introduction of NDDC was a welcome development by the people of the Niger Delta region. A new down was been welcome in the nine states of the Niger Delta with the hope that the region was going to be massively developed focus of the paper was on the development of Niger Delta region. The paper anchored on “Diversification Theory. The study was an ex-post facto design. The paper adopted content analysis and epidemiological review in the analysis. It was discovered that state-by-state projects were either abandoned, not completed or the amounts released were paltry compared to immobilized amounts for the projects. Furthermore, outrageous amounts were spent on the staff of the agency instead of the masses during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Irrespective of the huge budgetary allocations there has remained youth restiveness, militancy activities, bunkering, pipeline vandalization, illegal refining of crude and massive crude theft all arising from neglect of the oil rich region by federal government. The paper recommended that no more award of non existing contract (air jobs) by NDDC where privileged individuals are given free large sums of money without physical (existing) jobs. Stiffer punishment should be given to those that misappropriate public funds than hunting for petty thieves in the communities to jail. Electioneering campaign expenditures should not be sourced through NNDC office.
