Abstract

Challenges of school-based assessment are enormous especially in a state such as Rivers State. This paper investigated teacher’s perception of the challenges of school based assessment (CSBA) in secondary schools in Rivers State, Nigeria. Perceived challenges include socio-economic status of teachers, schools location, gender, experience, educational qualification, type of school, age and others. Materials and data were obtained through textbooks, internet materials and journal articles. This study was anchored on “Conditions of Learning Theory” The study was a survey design. A questionnaire structured in a 4-point Likerts scale fashion was used to elucidate information from the respondents. Instruments were validated through test and retest procedures and content reliability were computed using Cronbach alpha of 0.67 value for internal consistency and reliability.
