Abstract

This research examines the intersection of digital diplomacy and artificial intelligence in the effort to rebrand Africa's international image. The study explores how African states as well as the African Union deploy digital tools and AI-driven strategies to reshape global perceptions of the continent. It identifies major opportunities that arise from enhanced soft power projection as well as more effective public diplomacy. The research also analyzes the significant challenges that constrain progress. These challenges include infrastructural deficits as well as capacity gaps. The study adopts a qualitative desk research design that relies on secondary data drawn from official policy documents as well as scholarly literature. Findings indicate that digital diplomacy offers African actors new pathways for narrative control and global engagement. At the same time the uneven distribution of digital infrastructure and skills continues to limit the full realization of these benefits. The paper concludes that coordinated continental action combined with targeted national investments remains essential for Africa to leverage AI for positive image transformation.
