Abstract
The study examined the effect of conflict prevention initiatives on organizational harmony of commercial banks in South East, Nigeria. In other to achieve this purpose, the study was guided by three specific purposes, three research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated. The population comprised of all full time staff of commercial banks in South East, Nigeria. Purposive sampling was utilized to select management, senior and supervisory staff of selected commercial banks. The study adopted the survey research design and a structured questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents. Data were analyzed using ordinary least square regression. Compromising, integrating and obliging served as proxies for conflict prevention initiatives. The study found that compromising initiative and integrating initiative have positive effect on organizational harmony while obliging initiative had negative effect on organizational harmony of commercial banks. The study concludes that compromising and integrating conflict prevention initiatives are vital to organizational harmony while obliging initiative has negative effect on organizational harmony. It was therefore, recommended that managers should embrace compromising and integrating conflict prevention initiatives and avoid using obliging conflict prevention initiative in order to enhance organizational harmony.
