Abstract
The present study is focused on characterization of lignites in the Eocene – Pliocene Sedimentary successions of the Niger delta region using Proximate and Calorimetry analytical methods. The lignites are collected from river/stram channels and from Borehole ditch Cuttings. A total of nine (9) lignite samples collected from seven locations were used. The Geochemical Proximate analysis of the lignite samples shows that their Ash content increases with a decrease in their fixed carbon, while the Moisture content (dry) ranges from 0.67 to 4.67wt%. The fixed carbon content is within the range of 17.57 ̶ 25.85 wt%. Calorimetry result shows that the heating values (HV) ranges from 5.165 ̶ 21.616MJ/kg. Calorimetry result shows that the heating values (HV) ranges from 5.165 ̶ 21.616MJ/kg. The results show that the identified lignites are suitable for various industrial needs as good source of energy.
