Abstract
This experiment was carried out in the piggery unit of animal health and production department, Anambra state polytechnic, Mgbakwu, to evaluate the effect of conventional and non-conventional feeds (cf and ncf) on the weight gain of growers pigs in hot humid environment. Four two month weaner pigs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatment group (t1 and t2) with two replicates each. the experimental animals on t1 were fed with non-conventional feed while the animals in t2 were fed with conventional feed. the assay was designed in the student test format (t. test). Initial body weight, weekly weight gain, final body weight and body weight gain were measured. The both treatments showed no significant difference. However, the pigs in t2 had higher final body weight (kg). Also the body weight gain and weekly body weight gain were not significantly (p<0.05) influenced by the two feeds. Deductively, formulated feeds (cf) could be used for a short term production for fast weight gain, as tow feeds (low nutrition plane) is employed as maintenance diets for long term pig business.
